The health benefits of Omega- 3 fats are well documented in scientific literature. Numerous studies demonstrate the benefits of the Omega-3 fats, EPA and DHA. DHA is important for the structure and function of cell membranes particularly those of the nervous system. DHA is critical for normal, healthy brain structure and function. EPA is found in small amounts in the brain, but is required for numerous regulatory functions throughout the body. EPA helps support a healthy inflammatory response and optimal cardiovascular function. Cardiovascular benefits of Omega-3’s include the ability to support a normal, healthy heartbeat, normal blood clotting as well as healthy blood triglyceride levels.

  • Numerous studies demonstrate the powerful cardiovascular benefits of Omega-3 fats, particularly EPA.
  • EPA has the potential to regulate the production of prostaglandins that have a beneficial effect on inflammatory processes in the body.
  • EPA helps support normal, healthy blood circulation by helping to regulate blood-clotting processes.
  • EPA helps support normal, healthy cholesterol and triglyceride metabolism.

What are Omega-3 fatty acids?

Omega-3 fatty acids come in three types, DHA, EPA and ALA. All are poly-unsaturated (good fats) and essential to life. Unfortunately, the human body cannot produce Omega-3 fatty acids so you must consume them from food or supplements.

ALA can usually be found in flaxseed, nuts and other plants and ALA can be converted to DHA and EPA but only in small amounts. DHA and EPA have shown beneficial effects in numerous clinical studies are therefore the more desirable Omega-3s. The best food sources for DHA and EPA are cold-water fish such as sardines, mackerel, salmon and cod.

Only cold-water fish or fish oil supplements such as PrevRx® Omega can provide adequate amounts of DHA and EPA.

Who is at Risk for Omega-3 deficiency?

According to American Heart Association (AHA) recommendations, you should eat coldwater fatty fish such as salmon, at least twice a week. If you do not eat at least this amount of fish regularly, you could be at risk for Omega-3 deficiency. Talk to your physician about Omega-3 supplementation if you think you may be deficient.

Who can benefit from Omega-3 supplementation?

Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA and EPA have been well studied for a variety of conditions.

In addition to patients with CHD and/or high triglycerides, studies suggest that patients wanting to improve immune function, joint health and mobility, or promote heart, brain or eye health can benefit from Omega-3 supplementation. Also, there is a growing body of evidence suggesting that DHA supplementation before, during and after pregnancy can be beneficial to the developing child.

What is PrevRx Omega?

PrevRx® Omega is a High Potency Enteric Coated Omega-3 Fish Oil Supplement. Also, PrevRx® Omega is molecularly distilled to remove any PCBs, dioxins and heavy metals such as lead and mercury. Lastly, PrevRx® Omega is independently tested to ensure purity and potency.

What is enteric coating?

Enteric coating protects the softgel from the hash environment of the stomach, and then travels to the small intestine where it is digested and its fatty acids released and absorbed into the body. This prevents a fishy aftertaste and odor, and is helpful to sensitive individuals.

How Much Omega-3 Fatty Acids Will I need?

Your physician can recommend from one to six softgels per day based on your current health.

Also, if you experience a fishy aftertaste or if your current supplement is not molecularly distilled and independently tested for impurities, you should consider switching to PrevRx® Omega.

How Much is too much?
